When Western Sydney businesses combined forces on Friday, 20 October to run, ride and walk in the Coleman Greig Challenge, they showed just how much of a difference the corporate world can have on the lives of children with special needs and newborn care!
Joined by champion athletes Michelle Jenneke, Jana Pittman and Matt Cameron, almost 500 enthusiastic participants raised $213,000 for the Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children (RIDBC), St Gabriel’s School and My Westmead.
Business rivals indulged in some friendly competition, followed by a delicious post-event fundraising breakfast at Lachlan’s, Old Government House. An annual event, the Challenge has raised more than half a million dollars in its five year history, thanks to corporate heavyweight support.
2017 Platinum sponsors included St.George Bank, Lexus of Parramatta / Terry Shields Toyota, PricewaterhouseCoopers, AIIB, Cochlear, Parramatta Park, Australian Racing Drivers’ Club and Zest Care.
Coleman Greg Principal and event brainchild, Andrew Grima, said, “When we started hosting the event five years ago, we never envisioned the support we would have. We’re proud to have been able to work with so many businesses to help our charity partners give some special children the best health and educational opportunities possible.”
2017 Challenge funds will be used by RIDBC to assist in the purchase of technology to help educate children with vision and hearing impairments. My Westmead can now purchase Panda Resuscitaires – these machines literally save lives, assisting premature babies with breathing, temperature control and other vital bodily functions in the crucial hours after delivery and St Gabriel’s School will complete refurbishing its playground with sensory gardens, equipment and spaces designed to foster social skills.
St.George Bank, the Highest Fundraising Corporate Team and Overall Challenge Champion, raised a staggering $26,782.20 of the event total.
