Caroline West

Biography

Dr Caroline West is a GP with 30 years of clinical experience. Areas of expertise include nutrition, stress management, healthy lifestyle behavioural changes, mental health,  sleep, exercise and preventative medicine.

Dr Caroline is currently working in a frontline capacity during the Covid Pandemic . In 2020, Dr Caroline has been working doing respiratory clinics and Covid testing work  in regional Australia. For the last 6 months has been based in the the Outback in Broken Hill working for Aboriginal Health . Her current posting is with  the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

Dr Caroline also has an extensive background as a journalist in TV, online media and print journalism .  Her credits as a TV presenter and producer include Beyond Tomorrow , Good Medicine, Beyond 2000, 60 minutes, Sex/Life, Living Longer, Everybody , George Negus Tonight , Guide to the Good Life , Mornings and the Drum. .Currently Dr Caroline is a presenter with  Catalyst  and Ask the Doctor on ABC TV and The Project .  Dr Caroline has more that 30 years of experience writing  more than a thousand health features and columns.

Dr Caroline West is the past President of the Australian Society of  Lifestyle Medicine  (ASLM). Around Australia she regularly presents seminars on Lifestyle Medicine, wellness and prevention. She is a co author of Lifestyle Medicine. Managing Diseases of Lifestyle in the 21st Century (McGaw Hill).

Dr Caroline is a thought leader in the area of wellness and leadership believing that corporate and community leadership significantly drives healthy changes that enhance productivity , engagement and performance. Her workshops have been commissioned by many of Australia’s leading companies from Commbank, to Austrade and KPMG.

Dr Caroline is a passionate advocate for  the health and wellbeing of health practitioners .She has designed, written and implemented “Don’t just survive but Thrive “series of accredited courses with the RACGP that encourage health professionals to value their own wellness and mental health.
In the community, Dr Caroline has had ambassador roles with Chronic Pain Australia, World Sight DayCv and cycling for the City of Sydney.  She is a supporter of active commuting and regularly cycles to work and is the face of “Everything’s connected Caroline “ series. She enjoys keeping fit with  ocean swimming and kayaking.

She also has a love of art, music, the guitar and the ukulele and enjoys playing at music Festivals. Caroline has written multiple songs  for Australian Country artists that have appeared on ABC records.

Caroline enjoys spending time with her extended family of children with her husband Tim.

Dr Caroline West holds a Bachelor of Medicine/ Bachelor of Surgery from the University of NSW and a Fellowship of the Australasian Society of Lifestyle Medicine .On graduation from UNSW she was awarded the prize for most outstanding achievement in community medicine.
