About Mark

Accredited Specialist, Family Law

Mark MacDiarmid was admitted as a solicitor in 1989 after graduating with degrees in Arts and Law from the University of Sydney and has also gained his accreditation as a specialist in family law.

Since joining Coleman Greig in 2010, Mark has added a new dimension to the firm's family law practice.   He strongly prioritises non-court based solutions to family law issues, and his unique legal and interpersonal skills enable him to assist clients to obtain the best possible results for themselves and their children, while keeping levels of destructive conflict to a minimum.

For the first ten years of his career, Mark worked in the Sydney CBD, at various times combining his family law practice with both commercial litigation and general commercial advice.    In 2001, he left his position as a Director with a national law firm and moved to the Blue Mountains where he became Principal Solicitor at the Elizabeth Evatt Community Legal Centre, a non-government organisation that predominantly provided family law advice across the Bathurst, Oberon, Mudgee, Greater Lithgow and Blue Mountains regions.

In addition to his strong credentials in both family law and commercial law, Mark has also taught interpersonal skills to a variety of groups including lawyers, community welfare students, and special needs teachers and regularly writes for professional journals.   His most recent published articles have focussed on Binding Financial Agreements, family dispute resolution and human rights law.

Mark holds a Postgraduate Diploma of Psychology from Charles Sturt University, and is currently pursuing a Master of Laws by research at Sydney University. The subject of his thesis is the concept of 'property' in the Family Law Act.
