Accredited Specialist Property Law
John Cotter has gained over 40 years of experience in the fields of Property and Finance law since his admission as a solicitor in 1973. Over that time he has successfully negotiated matters ranging from simple leasing and acquisition transactions right through to multi-million dollar property development projects.
Prior to joining Coleman Greig, John was with Champion Legal in Parramatta for many years and held the position of Director with the firm. His experience, and his reputation for achieving the best results possible, mean that he is well-respected and highly regarded by both clients and colleagues alike.
Over the years, John has represented numerous property developers, government agencies and major institutions on a variety of issues such as the acquisition of significant parcels of land and commercial and industrial properties, the creation of Motorway easements for utility services, and the refinancing of company assets for a developer involving multiple securities.
He also acts for Government Departments such as the Roads and Maritime Services, the Department of Planning and Environment, the NSW Police Force and Transport for NSW. In many cases, John's in-depth knowledge of the law and his expert understanding of taxation implications have resulted in considerable financial savings for clients.
Outside of his professional activities, John is a keen motor sport enthusiast and Director (and past president) of the Australian Racing Driver's Club which runs Sydney Motorsport Park at Eastern Creek. He has raced many times in the Bathurst 1000 and was awarded the Australian Sports Medal in 2000 by the Australian Government and the Service Star in 1996 by the Confederation of Australian Motor Sport, both for service to motor sport.
In 1995 John gained specialist accreditation in Property Law from the NSW Law Society.
