Paul Lucas was Managing Principal with Coleman Greig for over 25 years and practised law for over 40 years. He is a member of the Australian Institute of Management, a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and an accredited adviser with Family Business Australia with whom he has had a long association.
Paul Lucas is particularly well-regarded for his work assisting family businesses of various sizes with issues that can arise around succession planning and business structuring. He adopts a holistic approach to business succession and has worked extensively with family businesses to identify practical options and work with their other advisers to determine the most appropriate solutions to their needs. He also holds an internationally-recognised certificate in Family Business Advising from the Family First Institute, a global organisation for advisers to family businesses.
Throughout his career, Paul has worked primarily in the field of Commercial Law and gained significant expertise in a variety of areas, including:
- Acquisitions and disposals of business and companies
- Structuring of businesses
- Business succession planning
- Legal issues regarding not-for-profit entities
- Director’s responsibilities and obligations
- Development of business plans and budgets.
Most importantly, the completion of his Master of Business Administration (MBA) coupled with this extensive experience enables Paul to provide all business clients with practical advice based on a sound understanding of the commercial strategic issues, rather than simply taking a legalistic perspective.
Paul continues to consult to Coleman Greig from time to time. He also presents regularly at conferences and has assisted many companies and not-for-profit organisations with training on issues such as Board responsibilities and corporate governance.
