Accredited Specialist, Commercial Litigation
Team Leader Litigation & Dispute Resolution
With extensive experience in construction law, Caroline Hutchinson brings a pragmatic perspective in advising clients whose large-scale commercial projects involve complex contractual disputes and litigation. Working with national clients in the construction sector – including Australian subsidiaries of multinationals - Caroline draws on a comprehensive understanding of the differing legislative requirements across the various Australian states.
Caroline’s demonstrated expertise in the role of negotiator between multiple parties in often high-risk environments is further enhanced by her ability to assist clients to interpret legislation and advise of any inherent risks in dealing with suppliers and users.
She is well-placed to assist in mitigating the risks involving the effects of litigation on a company’s corporate profile – her considerable professional experience is underpinned by a practical approach to achieve success on their behalf.
With her keen grasp of commercial realities, Caroline has also developed high level skills and expertise in alternative dispute resolution processes, aiming to resolve disputes without the need for threatened or ongoing litigation.
For many years, Caroline has represented a large multinational oil corporation and has particular expertise in dealing with asbestos-related litigation, drawing on her strong understanding of the complexities involved in that unique jurisdiction.
Caroline leads a dynamic group of commercial litigators who deal with a wide variety of issues ranging from contractual disputes to intellectual property proceedings, misleading and deceptive conduct through to insolvency matters.
In keeping with the firm’s core values, Caroline has a strong commitment to the community. She is actively involved in Coleman Greig’s Women in Business forums, working in partnership with sponsors and the not-for-profit organisations which are supported at the events. On top of this, Caroline has sat on the NSW Law Society's Litigation Law and Practice Committee since 2014.
Caroline was recently announced as a Finalist in two areas of law for the inaugural Lawyer's Weekly Partner of the Year Awards: Dispute Resolution and Litigation, and Commercial Law.
